Google target Yahoo users with ‘one-click sign-up’

I told you Google is taking over the world and like any self-respecting tyrant, they’ve chosen to pick on the weak first.  They’ve already took a pop at Skype with the new Gmail call service and though Skype are a huge service in their own right, they are dwarfed by Google’s ever expanding billion pound making empire and now poor little Yahoo are getting E-bullied.

My first email account was Yahoo and I’m sure many other peoples were too. Yahoo was
the email provider to have back in the day. Most people have Google these days but there a few groups of people clinging onto Yahoo, e.g. Google haters and people too lazy to fill out huge forms in order to jump ship to another email service.

Well Google is taking aim at the later by offering Yahoo users a new ‘OpenID feature’ that makes signing up for a Google account a simple one-click process for anyone with a Yahoo account.

The one-click feature gives Google access to the user’s Yahoo email address and authenticates the user’s identity, allowing them to access the wonderful world of Google’s web-based applications and services.

This is sure to coax a fair few Yahoo users over to the big G. But are Yahoo as weak as people think? Not really; Yahoo still captures a large share of Internet users and they are still dominating in areas such as dating (Yahoo Personals) and image hosting (Flickr outperforms Google’s Picassa by a wide margin.) Maybe I was wrong they’re not going for the weak, they’re going for the threats.

We’ll keep our eyes on who’s next in the firing line.

Who do you think will be causing concern for Google at the moment?
